The Gift of Giving

GIVING

<<PREVIOUS GIFT>>     <<NEXT GIFT>>

Giving—This gift equips one to regularly give in generous fashion of one’s financial resources. An example of leading through giving would be helping support a missionary family out of one’s own means (Mt. 8:3).

Individuals with the gift of giving have a special ability to contribute their financial resources to the work of the church with exceptional generosity and a heart focused on God and others. Here are ways they can serve in church ministries:
  1. Missionary Support: They can provide regular financial support to missionaries or sponsor specific mission projects, helping to further the reach of the gospel.
  2. Benevolence Funds: Contribute to or manage a benevolence fund to assist members of the church and community who are in financial need.
  3. Building Projects: Financially support church building or renovation projects, allowing the church to enhance its facilities for ministry and community outreach.
  4. Sponsorship Programs: Sponsor children or families through church-run programs that provide education, medical care, or basic necessities.
  5. Ministry Budget Support: Commit to funding a certain aspect of the church budget, such as youth ministry activities, worship team equipment, or outreach events.
  6. Stewardship Education: Teach or lead workshops on biblical stewardship and generosity, encouraging others to give and manage their resources wisely.
  7. Seed Money for New Ministries: Offer seed money to start new ministries or support innovative ideas within the church that align with its vision and mission.
  8. Emergency Relief: Be available to provide immediate financial assistance in times of crisis, such as natural disasters or personal tragedies within the church body.
  9. Matching Gifts: Encourage giving in others by offering matching gifts for certain donations or projects, effectively doubling the impact of the giving.
  10. Fundraising: Lead or participate in fundraising efforts for various church initiatives, using their gift to multiply resources.
  11. Resource Allocation: Serve on a church finance committee, helping to wisely allocate resources to different ministries within the church.
  12. Giving Challenge: Encourage giving within the congregation by sharing personal testimonies of how giving has impacted their own spiritual journey.
  13. Hospitality and Events: Host fundraising or community events, using personal resources to cover costs so that all proceeds can benefit church ministries.
  14. Church Planting: Provide substantial financial support for planting new churches, especially in areas with little or no existing Christian presence.
  15. Technology and Media: Invest in the church’s use of technology and media for better outreach and more effective communication.
  16. Legacy Giving: Lead by example in making legacy gifts, such as bequests or endowments, which can sustain the church’s ministries for generations to come.
Those gifted in giving not only provide much-needed financial support but can also inspire and lead others to practice generosity in their own lives, thus multiplying the effects of their gift throughout the church community.
